The new BMW 2 Series came out in July, and the powerful M2 is currently in development with numerous test vehicle sightings on the Nürburgring over the past several weeks. The latest video reveals something new and controversial, though.
First off, it does a good job conveying the nice six-cylinder engine sound of the next-gen M2. We do not have the figures yet, but rumors suggest it will produce around 457 metric horsepower (451 hp / 336 kW).
But what’s more interesting – and concerning – is that an automatic gearbox can distinctly be heard. This is not usual for M2 tests, and while we hope that BMW will leave manual as an option, there can be no guarantee.
Elsewhere, the new M2 sports a revised front fascia design with a square grille instead of the usual ‘dual kidneys’.
The premiere is expected to take place next summer.
