BMW will only reveal the new M2 Coupe in October and launch sales in early 2023, but Motor1 has already had a chance to try out a pre-production sample and learn about its parameters.
It is official now that the new M2 will not be getting all-wheel drive. It will ship with a manual gearbox in the standard version, but eight-speed automatic will be available at no extra cost.
The engine bay will be occupied by S58, the same engine that powers the BMW M4. It is an inline-six twin-turbo block rated at 450 PS (444 hp / 331 kW). Other components shared with the M4 include brakes, adaptive shocks and tires sized 275/35 R19 at the front axle and 285/30 R20 at the rear end.
It is assumed that the standard sprint time will be close to 3.7 seconds, while the top speed will not exceed the usual 250 km/h (155 miles per hour).
A carbon roof will be included in the base spec in order to reduce the weight of the car while lowering its effective center of gravity. Carbon-backed bucket seats will be optional, as well be an iDrive 8-powered infotainment cluster composed of two large displays. The infotainment will be similar to that found in other current BMWs.
