Unofficial: BMW to ramp up power on the smallest M car

According to inside sources on the Bimmerpost forum, BMW is getting a performance upgrade ready for its M2 Coupe, which only debuted last fall. The smallest car in the BMW M portfolio will allegedly get a power boost from 460 to 475 PS (from 454 to 469 hp; from 338 to 349 kW, accordingly).

M cars usually come in multiple versions aside from the main spec. However, the Bimmerpost insider claims that this time around, the main M2 spec will be updated instead and no new versions will be introduced.

In addition to this performance bump, the car will get minor design tweaks, new body color options and a fresh wheel set. It is unknown whether manual transmission will continue to be available or not.

If the rumors are true, then our best guess is that BMW is trying to update the M2 simultaneously with the mainline 2-Series. Both are expected to get facelifted in the coming year. Rumors go on to claim that the Bavarian carmaker plans to discontinue the M2 Coupe completely in 2029 and replace it with an all-electric successor.
