Rear drive, gear stick: BMW announces limited M3 Sport series

The new BMW 3 Series debuted at the Paris International Motor Show a year ago, and now the company says it is working on a Sport trim version that will premiere in 4Q 2019.

It is official that the new M will be getting a stronger engine that its predecessor. While the latter comes equipped with a three-liter turbocharged V6 rated at 425 hp (317 kW) and 550 Nm (406 lbft) of torque, rumors say the new M Sport might receive a hi-end version of it with 474 hp (353 kW) and 650 Nm (479 lbft) of torque. The car is also going to be 65 kilograms (143 pounds) lighter, which means it will be able to accelerate faster.

The BMW M3 Sport will ship with an all-wheel-drive and 8-speed automatic gear by default, but a limited series will also be made available with a rear drive and 6-speed manual transmission. The latter will be marginally (20 hp / 13 kW) less powerful than the main series.

The ‘gear stick’ M3 Sport cars will feature custom paintjobs, revised bumpers, new wheels, different interior trimming and a new dashboard design.
