BMW says it is not interested in making high-end estate/wagons

The new BMW M3 is right around the corner, and, with many believing that it is coming in both sedan/saloon and estate/wagon versions, the German carmaker decided to clear things up by announcing the latter would not be available, whether now or ever.

According to BMW, performance trims of estate/wagons are never popular enough to justify the development costs. The SUV segment is an entirely different story, though, so we may rest assured the company’s versatile and agile M Series SUV lineup is here to stay. Watch the video if you would like to refresh what the recently released X3 M and X4 M look like. New X5 M and X6 M will join the range in the near future.

On a side note, BMW did build a ‘hot estate’ once: the 2000 M3 Touring, which you can see in the gallery below. The car never made it into production.
