Next BMW 3 Series estate/wagon to get a superior diesel version

The M Performance subdivision of BMW has already stated that it did not intend to continue releasing sported-up estate/wagon models. As such, the next iteration of the M3 will be limited to the sedan/saloon body style. However, the current-gen wagon will be soon getting a strong diesel version to compensate.

The new BMW M340d will launch in March 2020 equipped with the same 3.0-liter diesel engine as the X3 M40d and X4 M40d. The unit will be sending 326 hp (243 kW) and 680 Nm (502 lb-ft) of torque to all four wheels. No acceleration specs are being provided, but we expect the model to run 0-100 km/h (0-60 mph) in less than five seconds.

The М340i is the strongest M3 on the market right now, packing a 3.0-liter six-cylinder gasoline engine in sedan/saloon and estate/wagon versions. The new diesel will be wagon only, though.

The premiere date hasn’t been set, but given the launch in March, we expect the M340d to make an appearance at the 2020 Geneva International Motor Show in Switzerland.
