BMW M3, M4 get M xDrive versions

The popular BMW M3 sedan and M4 Competition coupe will soon be available with a new paid option in the United States: starting in July, paying an extra $4,100 will net you an all-wheel drive version.

The M xDrive system features a coupling on the front axle, an active rear differential, and a mode called Drift Mode. The extra equipment adds 50 kg (110 lbs) to the curb weight, but both cars still manage to go 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in mere 3.5 seconds, 0.4s faster than their RWD counterparts do.

The rest stays stock. Both Competition models use a standard three-liter turbo-six mill rated at 510 PS (503 hp / 375 kW) and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque. They also make use of signature Competition wheels and darkened windows.
