How much has our perception of performance cars changed over the past two decades? CarWOW tries to illustrate it by pitting a 2000 BMW E46 M3 up against a modern Toyota GR Yaris.
The Bavarian sports sedan used to reign the streets back in its glory days thanks to a highly efficient engine coupled with the rear-axle transmission. Its naturally aspirated inline-six churned out 343 PS (338 hp / 252 kW) and 365 Nm (269 lb-ft) to a six-speed manual gearbox.
The GR Yaris makes use of a three-pot turbocharged to deliver 272 PS (268 hp / 200 kW) and 370 Nm (273 lb-ft). However, it also weighs 190 kilos (419 pounds) less and has AWD.
