Drag Race: New BMW M3 Competition vs. Tuned Mustang & Skyline GT-R

The CarWOW team has procured a latest-gen BMW M3 Competition and, rather than comparing it against the obvious competition, put it up against a couple of seriously tuned older sports cars.

The M3 Competition comes up to the start line packing 510 PS (503 hp / 375 kW) and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque that an eight-speed auto transmission sends to the rear axle. Its main advantage comes in the guise of an advanced launch control system that ensures the fastest launch in most conditions.

Going up against the Bavarian muscle is a Ford Mustang outfitted with a supercharged version of the stock 5.0-liter V8. A six-speed A/T carries up to 745 PS (735 hp / 548 kW) to the rear wheels.

Rounding off the list is a two-decades-old Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R packing a 2.6-liter twin-turbo V6. While it may not seem like enough displacement to compete with the ‘Stang, the Skyline featured in the video benefits from an extreme tuning program that sees its power rise to 761 PS (750 hp / 560 kW) and torque to 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) – the highest of all three. A manual transmission is used.

Watch the video to see just how well the new M3 Competition keeps up with the unstable custom builds – even though they surely do put up a fight.
