The classic BMW E30 is just so iconic that its price on the used market never fails to surprise, even when you would expect it to go cheaply. This tuned M3 from 1991 is a prime example.
Buyers tend to bid the highest for stock cars with minimal mileage, and this one is a far cry from both. It has 128,600 miles (207,000 kilometers) under its belt and suffered damage in an incident some 12 years ago. To top things off, it was extensively modified by its owner. It still fetched $68,000 USD at an auction yesterday. Sounds inexplicable?
Actually, we can just about see the appeal. The mods are rather tasteful and well applied. There is a body kit that makes the two-door Bavarian looks a bit like the M3 Evolution, Bilstein and H&R suspension components, a short-throw gear lever, and a trunk-mounted wing. 17-inch BBS forged wheels sit in the arches.
Our favorite highlight is the interior, however, which enjoys a full makeover in stylish plaid upholstery covering the seats and the door panels. The rest stays stock, which can be definitely viewed as an advantage.
