One of the main issues with chip (ECU) tuning is that most owners never bother to measure the output of their car properly on a dyno stand before and after the fact. Claiming you ‘feel’ the extra power on the intuitive level can be unconvincing at best. Carwow decided to see whether a software tune would help a BMW G80 M3 outpace its completely stock rival.
The yellow car shown here makes its usual 510 PS (503 hp / 375 kW) and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque. The black one enjoys a chiptune by Wrench Studious that lets it output 600 PS (592 hp / 441 kW) and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft). The owner did not try to prove those values. Other than that, both cars are OEM.
To make sure the results are not a coincidence, Carwow has held a number of drag races, both standing and rolling. Watch the video and see if your guesses were true!
