The YouTube team of Officially Gassed has held an unusual drag race recently, putting a BMW M3 on the drag strip next to a Vespa scooter. The latter may have exactly one-tenth the horsepower of the former, but hold your horses.
The E92 BMW M3 here comes with a factory V8 and additionally benefits from an ECU tune that raises its output to 430 PS (424 hp / 316 kW). A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission delivers it to the rear axle. The car weighs 1.6 metric tons, or around 3,530 lbs.
In turn, the two-wheeler packs a single-cylinder 150cc engine capable of 43 PS (42.4 hp / 31.6 kW). Funnily enough, it also weighs exactly ten times as little at 160 kg, or 53 lbs. All gear switching is manual.
Watch the video or read on for spoilers. Anyway, the Vespa gets a headstart at first, but the M3 catches up with it and ends up winning the race. A rolling race that took place directly after the standing race culminated in the same result. It is still worth noting that the scooter proved a challenging rival in both runs.
