The Bavarian carmaker has shared a video in which it tells us about testing a new M3 Touring model. Apparently, one of the test vehicles was based on the standard BMW 3-Series sedan that the engineering crew turned into an M3 by replacing the drivetrain and chassis.
A representative of the company mentioned that one of the highest priorities was to achieve sedan-like handling and acceleration levels. To this end, the bulky wagon had to be upgraded with new shock dampers and sway bars. The team worked especially hard determining optimum spring stiffness.
The resulting prototype was tested on public roads and the North Loop. The latter was perfect for fine-tuning the electronic components of the drivetrain, BMW points out.
The premiere date of the new M3 Touring remains to be announced.
