The history of the BMW M division can be traced back to its foundation on May 24, 1972. To celebrate turning 50 years old, the company will be producing a limited run of M3 sedans and M4 coupes titled ‘Edition 50 Jahre’. The production will start in July, and prices in the USA will begin from $96,695.
Buyers in Europe will be restricted to only four finishes – blue, red, black and grey. Customers in China will get to choose between just grey and orange, which the company claims is intended as a reference to the Year of the Tiger. They will also gain access to 19- and 20-inch wheels with a body-matching finish.
Americans and Canadians will only get the M3 part of the deal in red, orange, blue, grey and purple (one color per each past M generation). The automaker claims it had to restart production of certain discontinued color pigments for the occasion.
All cars come adorned with additional carbon-fiber body kit parts – a splitter and a spoiler – and mixed carbon/titanium exhaust finishers. Both the body and the cabin boast numerous special edition badges and plaques.
