Video: 660-PS BMW M3 narrowly misses 300 km/h

The new BMW M3 CS is still some time away from us, but if you don’t feel like waiting, there are always tuners like RaceChip around to give you a similar experience for less money.

One such car has recently gotten into the sights of AutoTopNL. Once tuned, its inline-six engine started pumping out 660 PS (651 hp / 485 kW) and 823 Nm (607 lb-ft) of torque, a considerable improvement over the stock 510 PS (503 hp / 375 kW). Then again, numbers usually mean little unless you can put them to use in real-world conditions.

This is what the YouTube crew wanted to test. The sedan proceeded to hit 100 km/h (62 mph) 3.09 seconds after the launch, doubled that acceleration in 10 seconds, and went past 250 km/h (155 mph) in 17 seconds. It felt like it could do more, and there was no longer any doubt that the chip tuning worked the way it was supposed to.

According to an assessment, an M3 like this would be able to run the quarter-mile in 10-11 seconds.
