The G80 BMW M3 equipped with xDrive AWD and the Competition package is the Bavarian automaker’s strongest 3-Series out there right not with 510 PS (503 hp / 375 kW) and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque at its disposal. But can it outrun a Porsche 911 Turbo S with a little tuning?
The example in this video has arguably received more than a little tuning, ending up with a healthy 800 PS (789 hp / 588 kW) and probably something like 1,000 Nm (738 lb-ft) of torque. This was accomplished through an ECU tune, the installation of an Eventuri carbon-fiber intake, a performance fuel system and a titanium exhaust system with a catalytic converter, but without a soot filter.
The Porsche going up against it is no slouch itself, though. It is a 911 Turbo S (991.2) spec dialed up to 900 PS (888 hp / 661 kW) at the wheel, meaning that the actual output at the crank is even higher. The engine enjoys four liters of displacement instead of the standard 3.8, a new intake manifold and turbos, and a Kline Innovation exhaust system made from heat-resistant Inconel alloy.
On paper, the advantage is firmly on the side of the Turbo S, which packs more power, weighs roughly 200 kg (450 pounds) less and benefits from a track-grade clutch. Both cars are AWD. But could the BMW have a trick or two up its sleeve? Watch and find out!
