The Carwow team has arranged a drag race between the all-electric Lucid Air and the gas-powered BMW M3 sedan. Even disregarding the powertrain differences, the two cannot be called rivals due to their wildly different weight and power numbers. But the most interesting part is, the M3 has been tuned to the hilt.
In its stock form, the BMW M3 Competition utilizes a 3.0-liter I6 twin-turbocharged to 510 PS (503 hp / 375 kW) and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque. In contrast, the example in the video churns out a cool 750 PS (740 hp / 552 kW) along with 900 Nm (664 lb-ft) of peak torque.
The eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive system stay stock. The car tips the scales at 1,780 kilos (3,924 pounds). The owner evaluates it at £92,070 – around £8,000 over the standard price.
The Lucid Air is a high-end Dream Performance spec commanding two electric motors jointly rated at 1,111 PS (1,096 hp / 817 kW) and 1,390 Nm (1,025 lb-ft) of torque. Its main disadvantage is the weight, which amounts to 2,383 kilos (5,254 pounds). That’s 33% or so of extra bulk compared to the M3. As for the prices, they begin at £193,000 for this version.
