BMW teases a new M4-based racecar

It’s official: BMW M will be basing its next GT racecar on the same tech as the next-gen M4 Coupe.

The racecar will come to replace the М6 GT3, which debuted in 2016 and scored two victories at the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, as well as the FIA GT World Cup in Macau.

The manufacturer will take its M4 GT3 out for a spin sometime in the first half of 2020. Pre-ordering will become available a year after that, and the first races with the participation of this model will commence in 2022. It should be noted that the GT racing series will be adopting a brand-new set of technical regulations in 2022, which makes the update rather well-timed. On the circuit, the newcomer will meet its traditional rivals from Audi and Porsche, as well as the updated Mercedes-AMG GT.

The first teaser pic confirms that the BMW М4 GT3 indeed gets the huge ‘nose grille’, like the Concept 4 it draws inspiration from. Its street-legal counterpart is already running road tests.
