Video: BMW M440i xDrive vs. Old & New M4 Competition Duo

In the latest video by CarWOW, a current-gen BMW M440i goes up against two other 4 Series vehicles armed with 3.0-liter bi-turbo V6s, specifically an older M4 Competition from five years ago and a new G82 model.

Starting with the five-year-old M4 Competition, it packs an S55 engine rated at 450 PS (444 hp / 331 kW) and 550 Nm (406 lb-ft) of torque. A seven-speed pre-selective transmission delivers the momentum to the rear axle. At 1,590 kilograms (3,505 lbs), it is the lightest car of the trio and costs from £60,000.

The new G82 M4 Competition exists in RWD and AWD variants, but CarWOW picked the former for the drag race. An S58 engine hits an eight-speed automatic transmission with 510 PS (503 hp / 375 kW) and 650 Nm (478 lb-ft) of torque in this one. The new model comes in at 140 kg (308 lbs) above its predecessor and packs a sizeable £16,000 premium over it.

The B58 mill of the M440i xDrive makes do with 374 PS (369 hp / 275 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque. The transmission is the same as the G82 M4, and the curb weight amounts to 1,740 kg (3,836 lbs).

Prepare to be surprised if you think the latest performance coupe won all the races. For one, there is no avoiding the fact that semi-auto can often be faster than automatic, and the old M4 has better brakes, too.
