BMW M4 xDrive Competition Convertible penciled in for 2022 launch

The BMW M4 Competition Convertible will be getting an xDrive version next October, marking the first time an open-topped M4 gets an all-wheel-drive system. Prices will begin at $86,300.

The engine bay will hold onto its usual 3.0-liter inline-six mill (S58B30T0) that also powers the M3 sedan and coupe. Its twin turbochargers deliver 503 PS (496 hp / 370 kW) and 649 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque to the wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission. The driver can switch between such modes as 4WD, 4WD Sport, and 2WD.

The new M4 Cabrio needs 3.6 seconds to reach 60 miles per hour (96 km/h) and maxes out at 249 km/h (155 mph). Opting for the M Package raises the speed limiter to 280 km/h (174 mph).

Notable features include an automatic soft top that folds itself neatly into the trunk within 18 seconds, a black radiator grille, larger air intakes, redesigned side sills, and a huge rear diffuser with quad tailpipes.

The two main interior highlights are a 12.3-inch digital dashboard and a 10.25-inch infotainment display. Lightweight M Carbon bucket seats are available at a premium.
