Sport Auto drove a BMW M4 Competition on the Nürburgring last year, leading the rear-wheel-drive coupe to the finish line in 7:30.79. Yesterday, they ran the same course in an xDrive vehicle.
It has to be pointed out that weather conditions also play a significant part in records like these, and the weather in Germany was much better this time around. The M4 Competition xDrive lapped up the Green Hell in 7:28.57, beating its RWD sibling by more than two seconds. Both wore Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires to the track.
The M4 Competition has the same power output in RWD and AWD (xDrive) versions. A 3.0-liter turbocharged I6 churns out 510 PS (503 hp / 375 kW) and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque to the wheels. The xDrive is heavier at 1,775 kg (3,913 lbs) versus 1,700 kg (3,748 lbs). When driven in a straight line, it maxes out as high as 290 km/h (180 mph).
