With everything else more or less the same, AWD cars tend to win drag races against 2WD ones thanks to improved launch traction. Still, there is no discounting other factors as well.
Take this video uploaded to YouTube by Hoonigan. An Acura NSX races a first-generation BMW M4. The cars are very different, but both are tuned to around 700 horsepower (522 kW), although neither of the owners measured the output precisely.
However, while the NSX is an all-wheel-drive sports car, the M4 makes do with only one driven axle in the rear. To counter it, it rides on drag-racing slicks that should give it an advantage over its Japanese rival.
