There are many reasons to love the BMW M4 CSL, and this dyno stand test footage is yet another one. Posted by a YouTube user named BMW_M_Collector M-Power, it shows just how much more than the OEM-rated 550 horsepower the car produces.
Like many modern BMWs, the range-topping M4 coupe utilizes a 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six engine. The stock power rating is given by the manufacturer as 550 metric horsepower (542 U.S. hp, or 404 kilowatts). However, in reality the car puts out 602 PS (594 hp / 443 kW) to the wheels. The torque is also higher at 720 Nm (531 lb-ft) instead of the advertised 650 Nm (479 lb-ft). The tester points out that both numbers have been corrected for transmission losses and represent the values ‘at the crank’, but without factoring in the atmospheric conditions.
The same car was tested by the AutoTopNL team not long ago, and the author of that channel inspected it to confirm that it was completely stock. This means that, even allowing for potential lack of precision of the dyno stand measurements, the new BMW M4 CSL is seriously underrated by its manufacturer and offers substantially more power and torque than stated in the specifications.
