The Bavarian automaker has updated its entire 4-Series lineup including the liftback, the convertible and the coupe, as well as the M4. The term ‘mid-generational refresh’ is not used in the announcement, because a facelift will be coming later on.
You will easily recognize the new cabin if you have seen the BMW i4 (in the attached video) or the latest 3-Series. The dash panel accommodates a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a 14.9-inch infotainment display under a single pane of glass, and there are no analog gauges or HVAC controls anywhere. Touchscreens are used to access all the in-car functions available.
Another novelty comes in the form of a small drive mode selector replacing the full-fledged gear joystick; only the M4 still gets the joystick. Paddle shifters are now standard equipment.
