Ever since the facelifted BMW M5 debuted in June 2020, talks have gone on and on about the upcoming CS version. After a long period of prototype sightings and speculation, the car debuts at last.
As it turns out, the new M5 CS weighs in at 100 kg (220 lbs) under the M5 Competition while being much more powerful at 636 PS (627 hp / 468 kW). This is enough to go 0-96 km/h (0-60 mph) in 2.9 seconds and reach 200 km/h (124 mph) in 10.4 seconds.
The interior immediately draws attention to its gorgeous set of carbon-fiber M seats on both rows, separated from each other by a center console. All four bear the outlines of the 12.9-mile long North Loop raceway. Could this be a hint that a new record had been set on that track?
Further noteworthy elements include a large 12.3-inch infotainment display in the middle of the dashboard, Gold Bronze exterior accents, assorted carbon fiber parts, and 20-inch wheels.
The new M5 CS will go on sale as a year 2022 model and will enjoy a limited production run. Customers in Europe will get it this spring, while those in the United States will have to wait until the second half of 2021.
