2003 BMW M5 goes under the hammer for $200k

Did you, too, miss the moment when cars dating back to the turn of the 21st century suddenly became retro? A dealership in Ohio has recently sold an 18-year old E39 BMW M5 for $199,990, nearly twice the $103,500 sticker price of a brand-new F90 M5.

The teenage car is reported to be in near-perfect condition with around 5,000 km (3,100 miles) on the odo. The dealership manager claims it could fetch even more money than that if it weren’t finished in the common Carbon Black color. An example with a rarer finish could have sold for around $250,000.

The E39 BMW M5 is a RWD sedan that came out in 1998–2003 (watch the video for a closer look at it). A 4.9-liter naturally aspirated V8 hit a six-speed manual transmission with 400 PS (394 hp / 294 kW). An approximate total of 20,500 vehicles have been produced.
