BMW M5 sets a new record

The top-of-the-line MBW X5 2018 has set its first but likely not the last record by completing a Shanghai International Circuit F1 lap in 2:22.828.

The new BMW M5 was piloted by Bruno Spengler, winner of the 2012 DTM Drivers’ Championship. The new record is whole 5 seconds better than the previous one in the Four-Door Sedan category.

The ultimate record for the track, 1:31.68, had been previously set by British racer Lewis Hamilton piloting his Mercedes-AMG F1 W08 EQ Power+ during the Chinese Grand Prix.

While there are other cars which had managed to complete the Shanghai lap much faster than the X5 did, it must be understood that the latter is essentially just a regular sporty sedan designed primarily for urban driving. This really makes the result of the BMW X5 2018 all the more impressive.
