Does a performance sedan stand a chance of outrunning a purebred supercar on a quarter-mile drag strip? Carwow pitted a Ferrari 812 up against a BMW M5 CS to find out.
The M5 CS comes with a variety of factory-side upgrades that make it capable, including a power boost, some weight reduction and assorted suspension tweaks. A 4.4-liter V8 under the hood churns out 635 PS (626 hp / 467 kW) and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission. Zapping from zero to 97 km/h (0-60 mph) is a matter of three seconds.
The Ferrari 812 Superfast walks over those numbers with 6.5 liters of displacement, twelve cylinders and around 800 PS (789 hp / 588 kW) of raw power. Its torque is only barely lower at 717 Nm (529 lb-ft). However, it also makes do with only one driven axle at the rear. On the upside, its dual-clutch transmission is considered among the fastest on the market. Sprinting 0-97 km/h (0-60 mph) is possible in 2.7 seconds if you nail the launch.
All right, those are all paper specs, but how about a real-life showdown? Watch the video and find out which one is the king!
