New BMW M5 sedan reveals interior

Judging by the latest bunch of spy photos published by Carscoops, the next-gen M5 sedan will share its interior design traits with the rest of new BMWs. Among other things, this includes a large dual display.

All recent BMWs come equipped with a 12.3-inch digital dash screen and a 14.9-inch infotainment display united under a single curved pane of glass. The M5 pictured here looks like it will be getting the same display combo.

It also sports a steering wheel that’s squared off from below, a minimalist center console and a center tunnel with a special trim on it. The transmission selector is nowhere to be seen, possibly replaced by the drive mode switch. The iDrive controller is also new.

As for the exterior shots farther down our gallery, they leaked a while ago. The most recent ones provide a good look at the grille, the headlights and the quad exhaust system, suggesting that that specific test car ran an IC engine.

Carscoops believes that the new M5 will ship with the same powertrain as the recently introduced XM, among other options. This means a 4.4-liter V8 partnered up with an electric motor for 653 PS (644 hp / 480 kW) and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque total. If true, this would mean a major power boost for the Bavarian sedan.

In theory, even the XM Label Red powertrain with its 745 PS (735 hp / 548 kW) and 997 Nm (735 lb-ft) of torque might make its way under the hood of the new M5 later on. A purely electric variant is also not impossible: the BMW iX with its 600 PS (592 hp / 441 kW) could make a great powertrain donor, for example.
