Gooding & Company will soon be holding an auction for a rather unusual vehicle, a rare 16-year-old BMW M5 with only around 700 km (435 mi) on its odometer. The car is expected to fetch up to U.S. $180,000.
The silver-colored sedan rolled off the assembly lines in 2002 and was purchased by avid BMW car collector Glen Konkle. The man always bought two copies of any given car, one for everyday use and another for keeping as a collector’s piece. Even though this particular BMW M5 had initially been meant for the latter, he ended up driving it for more than 700 km.
In its stock version, the sedan comes driven by a 5.0L V8 engine rated at 400 hp (298 kW). It needs less than 5.5 seconds to accelerate 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph). A total of 20,500 such cars has been produced in 1998 – 2003.
