BMW leaks mysterious e-coupe shots

The Bavarian automaker only mentioned a sedan and an SUV when it announced its all-electric Neue Klasse lineup, but someone has now snapped spy shots of a mysterious BMW coupe running tests. Carscoops says the company had never mentioned any plans for a two-door EV before.

Ever more puzzlingly, the car looks unlike anything BMW has released recently. The front end may give off faint Neue Klasse vibes, but the rear is completely unexpected – very bulky, raised, with a nearly horizontal roofline coming up to it.

According to the spy photographer as quoted by Carscoops, the car also had sensors on its pillars instead of conventional door handles and rode on a quartet of motorized wheels. Note the missing brake calipers: the car most likely brakes using its regenerative system.

Granted, this is all pure conjecture, as BMW still has to announce the car or at least hint at its premiere date. Overall, the mystery coupe looks like something the company may end up releasing in a small production batch – like the i8 before it.
