BMW launches the 2019 X1 facelift with a new engine

BMW has completed a mid-generational refresh of its X1 entry-level SUV series. Let us see what is new and interesting.

Up front, there is a new bumper with enormous air intakes, anti-fog lights, an upscaled kidney grille, and different headlights. Moving on to the rear, there are new taillights, a restyled rear bumper, and redesigned exhaust tips. Curiously, the side mirrors now project a colorful X1 logo on the ground.

Naturally, the facelift also brings along new wheel sets and body colors.

The cabin now takes advantage of improved trimming materials, a new gear selector, and an infotainment system with an 8.8-inch display (10.25” optional).

The main technical improvement comes in the form of a new plug-in hybrid powertrain based on a turbocharged gasoline engine (123 hp / 92 kW) and an electric motor (94 hp / 70 kW). The powertrain is only available in the X1 xDrive25e trim version. Plugged into a small 9.7 kWh lithium-ion battery, it offers around 50 km (31 miles) of all-electric range.

The car will ship with a whole assortment of  3- and 4-cylinder IC engines with their displacement varying from 1.5 to 2.0 liters and output rated between 114 and 228 hp (85 – 170 kW). The range-topping BMW X1 will be available with a 4WD system (paid option).

Sales in Europe start this summer.
