The BMW X1 compact crossover series has received a new variant called the xDrive25e.
The car comes powered by a 1.5-liter, three-cylinder gasoline engine (125 hp / 92 kW, 220 Nm / 162 lb-ft) sending the torque to the front axle via a six-speed Steptronic transmission. In turn, an electric motor with 95 hp (71 kW) and 165 Nm (122 lb-ft) rotates the rear axle. The summary output amounts to 220 hp (164 kW) and 385 Nm (284 lb-ft). Sprinting from nothing to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes seven seconds, and the SUV maxes out at 192 km/h (119 mph).
Electric power is provided by a 9.7-kWh lithium-ion battery located under the rear sofa. The electric range amounts to 57 kilometers (35.4 miles) and turns the car from an AWD into an RWD vehicle. Full charging takes five hours, but goes down to 3.6 hours with the use of the original BMW charger. Fuel consumption in hybrid mode shouldn’t exceed 2 liters per 100 km (UK: 141 MPG, USA: 117 MPG).
Wrapping up the list of features are new drive modes. Aside from the previously available Comfort, Eco Pro and Sport, there are three new modes to choose from. Auto eDrive automatically balances the power and torque between the engines, Max eDrive is all-electric and capped at 135 km/h (84 mph), and Save Battery is hybrid until the charge drops below a specified level.
To warn the pedestrians about the approaching EV, the BMW X1 xDrive25e emits special sounds while in the Max eDrive mode.
