Photos: BMW iX1 hits the test track

BMW unveiled the all-electric iX3 this summer and will be showing a production car based on the iNext Concept in a few days’ time, but in the meantime, we can throw a glance at the electrified X1 model that went out for a series of tests this weekend.

The prototype wears a camo wrap, but its body appears production-ready. Based on the shots revealed, it looks much like the old-gen gas-powered X1, the main differences being the wheels, the radiator grille and the blue trim accents.

No specifics are known about the powertrain, but the iX3 model (watch the launch video attached for more info) proved quite a bit tamer than expected with its single RWD motor rated at 286 PS (282 hp / 210 kW). Its 74-kWh traction battery has enough juice for 460 km (285 miles) of driving before a recharge becomes necessary.
