New BMW X2 spotted running around looking like a proper coupe-SUV

Like its cousin the X1, the BMW X2 will go through its next iteration soon, turning from a high-riding hatchback into a proper-looking coupe-like SUV, as these spy shots clearly indicate. The launch is expected sometime in 2023.

The heavy camo cladding both test vehicles spotted today fails to hide the main modification: the roof slanted towards the rear end. A large radiator grille and a pronounced trunk lid spoiler are also clearly seen, and the headlights look borrowed from the new X1.

Carscoops believes the switch to a more fashionable and upmarket body style occurred because the outgoing X2 generation didn’t sell well.

Interior photos remain to be made, but we won’t be surprised to see the same or similar cabin as the X1. The latter arrived in its second generation with a new center console and a double display comprising a 10.2-inch digital dashboard and a 10.7-inch central screen.

The body style change could also mean an upmarket move for the X2, so chances are fairly good BMW will only ship it with the best powertrains available in this class. This includes the X1’s hybrid system based on a 2.0-liter petrol engine and rated at 326 PS (322 hp / 240 kW). It’s also worth noting that the X1 has an electric modification called the iX1.
