New BMW X2 makes its rally debut

The just-introduced next generation of the BMW X2 is taking part in the all-female Rebelle Rally in the United States right now, with a few basic off-road mods installed. It will not go on sale until early 2024, so let’s take a closer look.

The donor vehicle here is an M35i xDrive powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine producing 317 American hp. It rides on Rotiform ZMO-M wheels wrapped in Falken Wildpeak AT Trail rubber, has a Thule Caprock expedition rack with Smittybilt accessories, takes advantage of Morimoto lighting and has towing eyes from the BMW M Performance Parts catalog. Further modifications include skid plates, a full-body wrap, a spare wheel case on the tailgate, and a TerraTrip co-pilot computer.

Sedona Blinnson and Rebecca Donaghe are driving the new X2 in the X-Cross category, the less hardcore out of the two Rebelle Rally competition formats devised for vehicles without transfer case.
