The all-electric iX3 Concept (shown on the video) debuted in 2018, but the production car hasn’t shown up until today.
The first official photo of the iX3 went live during the presentation of another EV – the BMW i4, archrival of the Tesla Model 3. It looks like the production-ready SUV closely matches the design of its prototype version, which in turn looked little different from the regular BMW X3.
The production start is expected to follow later this year at the BMW Brilliance Automotive facility in China, with exports to a wide variety of countries. The single-motor, RWD, 286-hp spec will debut first of all, and an AWD spec will enter production later on. The traction battery will amount to 74 kWh in all versions, which would mean around 440 kilometers (273 miles) of range from a single charge.
The BMW iX3 will also be the Bavarian automaker’s first vehicle to take advantage of the 5th-gen eDrive system. It will be accompanied by two further BMW EVs next year, the abovementioned i4 and the iNext.
