Modern automobile tuning is an interesting phenomenon. Earlier on, mechanics had to delve deep in the cars’ bowels to find what they wanted to tune; today, the same can often be accomplished via electronic interfaces. As it turns out, you can even switch the BMW X3M from all-wheel drive to rear axle with a single button push.
Mission Performance made the discovery while fiddling with the settings of the crossover’s xDrive system. The team has managed to convince the software to uncouple the front axle upon request and then couple it right back.
The new feature will definitely be interesting to the drift and drag racing enthusiasts out there, but Mission Performance says more testing and tweaking is necessary before it can go live.
