BMW has come forth with an official confirmation that the iX3 all-electric car series will be assembled in China. The vehicles will then be shipped worldwide.
The company plans to start production in 2020. It will use the existing works in Shenyang where 70% of all BMW vehicles for the Chinese market are produced. The facilities will be upgraded to cope with the higher production volumes.
BBA, another Chinese enterprise, will produce the batteries for the environment-friendly BMW iX3 series. The vehicle will have a driving range of 400 kilometers. It will also be able to replenish its charge within 30 minutes using a high-power charging station.
BMW cars are actually quite popular in China. For instance, over 550,000 units have been sold there in 2017 – even more than in Germany or the USA.
