1st-gen BMW X3 gets a stick-shifted M version

The BMW X3 saw the daylight in the distant year 2003, but it wasn’t until a decade and a half later that it finally received a driver-focused M version. It did come to us in 2019, but tuners have already produced their own X3 M by that time – an even more impressive one.

The SUV pictured here was built in the USA with the legendary S54 six-banger under the hood. The 3.2-liter, naturally aspirated mill may be two decades old itself, but it is still widely regarded as one of the Bavarian company’s greatest engineering achievements of all time.

The output isn’t specified, but we know that the transmission is six-speed manual. BC coilovers are used in the suspension, and a modern infotainment system with Apple CarPlay support can be found inside.

If you are interested, the car is up for grabs for just under $20,000. It is said to be in good condition despite having roughly 225,000 km (140,000 miles) on the inline-six and 342,000 km (213,000 miles) on the chassis. A used first-gen X3 can be two to five times as cheap in the USA as this one, so the premium is obviously only there for the sheer uniqueness of this build.
