The YouTube team of DragTimes has posted a video report from a race between two unlikely contenders. The mid-engined Lamborghini Huracan supercar went up against a tuned BMW X3 M that put up even more of a fight than the spectators looked forward to.
The Huracan in the video belongs to one of the hosts of the DragTimes channel. It is rumored to be a custom Technica trim worth nearly $300,000. The 5.2-liter V10 under the hood still churns out its normal 640 PS (631 hp / 471 kW), though.
In turn, the X3 M packs a 3.0-liter six-cylinder mill overhauled in the most extreme manner possible to deliver roughly 700 PS (690 hp / 515 kW) to the wheels. Unlike the Italian coupe, the SUV takes advantage of four driven wheels, but it also weighs around 500 kg (1,100 lbs) more. It is decidedly the cheaper one of the two, coming in at $75,000 new, plus around $10,000 for the tune-up.
The Huracan scores a victory the first around, completing the quarter-mile in just 10.58 seconds. The Bavarian soft-roader comes roughly one-third of a second behind it. In the two other races that followed, however, the Lambo driver seems to fumble the start and lets the tuned X3 M outrace it almost effortlessly.
In the end, the BMW shows the best quarter-mile time of 10.53 seconds. According to DragTimes, the Huracan can run the same distance in just 10.229 seconds as long as the driver pays attention as they go through the gears.
