The next-gen BMW X5 М performance SUV will hit the market pretty soon. In the meantime, spy photographers have shot a test mule from several angles and even managed to peek inside the cabin.
Those who thought they were in for a surprise are in for a disappointment, though, since the interior looks mundane, with two ergonomic sport seats trimmed in a dual-color fashion.
It is expected that the new X5 M will ship with the same 4.4-liter turbocharged V8 as the regular X5, the M550i sedan/saloon and the M850i coupe and convertible. Its nominal power output amounts to 530 horsepower (395 kilowatts), but the ‘M’ suffix should warrant a boost to around 600 hp (450 kW). The M Competition trim will likely take things further up to 620 or 625 hp (~465 kW). At any rate, this is how much the same engine churns out in the M5 and M8.
Being an SUV, the X5 won’t quite match the M8 Coupe in terms of acceleration performance, which is 3.2 seconds from zero to 100 km/h. That said, it should still have plenty of agility.
The 2020 BMW X5 M should celebrate its international premiere later on this year.
