Alpina getting new BMW X7-based SUV ready to rumble

Up until now, Alpina only had two crossovers/SUVs on its lineup: the XD3 and the XD4 (388 hp / 289 kW; 770 Nm / 568 lb-ft). As you can guess, the two were built upon the BMW X3 and X4, respectively. Today, things change with a new BMW X7-based model spotted during road tests.

Compared to the X7, Alpina’s vehicle sports such trademark features as the larger wheels and the front splitter.

With the car still unannounced, we cannot say which trim version of the German SUV the tuner uses as a starting point. The X7 ships in several variants. The 40i (3.0 liters of displacement, 340 hp / 254 kW, 450 Nm / 334 lb-ft) and M50i (4.4 l, 530 hp / 395 kW, 750 Nm / 553 lb-ft) trims run on gas, while the 40d (3.0 l, 265 hp / 198 kW, 620 Nm / 457 lb-ft) and M50d (3.0 l, 400 hp / 298 kW, 760 Nm / 561 lb-ft) are diesel-powered.

Supposing the XD7 ships with a 3.0-liter, six-cylinder gasoline engine, we should reckon with around 440 hp (328 kW) and 660 Nm (487 lb-ft) of torque. The 40d version should be similar to the XD3 in terms of specs, while the M50d would likely be boosted beyond 400 hp (298 kW) and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque. If Alpina chooses the eight-cylinder spec, the performance will be close to that of the range-topping B7 sedan/saloon (608 hp / 453 kW, 800 Nm / 590 lb-ft).

We will learn which of our conjectures are true towards the end of the current year, when the alleged Alpina XD7 SUV debuts on official terms.
