According to CarBuzz quoting BMW Chief Designer Domagoj Dukec, the market trends have changed over the years, making it worthwhile to reconsider the viability of performance trucks.
Speaking in a recent interview, Dukec admitted that he had been hearing requests from customers for the production of such a truck throughout his entire employment in the company. Five years ago, BMW said it was not financially viable and therefore not in the plans. Since then, however, premium trucks have picked up in popularity.
Dukec never specified when the idea could finally become a reality, but pointed out that the market was evolving. Per CarBuzz, the Bavarian automaker may begin work on a truck after releasing the next generation of its X5 SUV along with the all-electric version.
The company already has some experience in truck conversions. A team of interns unveiled an X7 rebodied as a truck back in 2019 (see the gallery and the video). However, it was just a one-off prototype not meant for mass production.
