Rumor: BMW X8 M could be a V8-based, 750-HP hybrid

BMW is getting ready to premiere its X8 M SUV next year, and reports are coming in that it would come powered by a high-end V8 assisted by an electric system for 750 PS (740 hp / 552 kW) total output.

If confirmed, this would make the new X8 M the highest-performing Bavarian production car in history. Car spotters have already sighted it a few times during tests, exposing a body that looked smaller than that of the latest X7 and an edgy, sharp-looking front clip.

The X7 and the new X8 will likely share the same platform and come with an assortment of electrified gasoline and diesel powertrains, as well as a non-electric twin-turbo V8. The high-end X8 M is expected to ship as a PHEV armed with a 4.4-liter V8 TT and a single electric motor.
