AC Schnitzer tunes up the part-electric BMW XM

BMW fans have been wondering for a while now what a tuning company as renowned as AC Schnitzer would do with a vehicle like the XM. For those who buy it, the hybrid crossover should be imposing and powerful enough as is without any need for further tuning. Long story short, we are surprised with the sheer number of modifications that the company was able to come up with.

In its tuned version, the petrol-electric drivetrain outputs 98 horsepower more than stock, for a new total of 751 PS (741 hp / 552 kW). The torque now peaks at 900 Nm (664 lb-ft). We don’t know how fast on the uptake the tuned SUV is, but purely on paper, it surpasses even the Label Red. For those concerned about reliability, AC Schnitzer covers the whole powertrain with a warranty of its own.

On the outside, you can tell the car is a Schnitzer by its telltale body kit. There’s a front splitter, side winglets, a rear wing at the roof and fin-like diffuser inserts at the back. The stock wheels went away, making room for AC5 Flowforming forged rims sized 23 inches in diameter and 11.5 inches wide at both ends. Low-profile rubber was put on the wheels and the wheel span was widened by a total of 20 mm (0.8 in). Those who feel like it may also order a suspension lowering, but that’s optional.

The biggest highlight in the cabin is all the brushed aluminum accents. The fine metal can be found on the transmission stalks under the steering wheel, the iDrive controller lid, the pedals and the footrests. Badges saying “XM by Schnitzer” round off the stylish makeover.

All prices are pending, but you can already leave a preorder.
