A 30-year-old BMW Z1 Roadster will soon go on sale in Belgium with only 16 km (10 miles) under its belt, warranting a price estimate of €90,000 - €120,000.
The vehicle was among the last produced in the batch of just 8,000, and one of only 228 examples finished in Magic Violet. It had never been driven on public roads with only testing and delivery mileage showing on the odometer. Despite this, the owner made sure to perform regular maintenance and change the liquids. Buyers can rest assured that there will be no issues with the unusual door/side sill design, because the rubber gaskets have been replaced recently.
The car was initially purchased in 1991 and registered five years later. Until then, it served as a show exhibit in the office of its first and only owner. A full package of documents comes with it.
BMW introduced the Z1 (Z for ‘Zukunft’, which is German for ‘future’) in its concept form 35 years ago, and launched it a year later. It came powered by a number of components borrowed from the BMW 325i (E30), including the M20 six-cylinder engine rated at 170 PS (168 hp / 125 kW), the transmission and the suspension. A body built around an exoskeleton and plastic paneling ensured a low weight of just 1,250 kg (2,755 lbs) and good performance. The convertible hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in eight seconds flat and maxed out at 225 km/h (140 miles per hour).
