A 1990 BMW Z3 roadster advertised as the world’s last as-new Z3 of that area will cross the auction block in France on Friday, February 2. It has never been resold to private buyers before and has under 100 km (62 miles) on the counter. The price estimates lie between 100 and 150 thousand euros, or U.S. $108,600–163,000.
The original roadster (see video) was the first Z-series BMW vehicle on the planet. It was the company’s first two-seat sports car produced since the 507 Roadster of the 1950s. It sported an unusual drop-down door design and, in many ways, inspired the modern Z4 lineup.
The example on sale was optioned with a hardtop from Wiesmann Auto Sport. The seller claims that out of roughly 8,000 Z3 models assembled in the 1980s and early ‘90s, only around 500 received a hardtop like this one.
The engine is a 2.5-liter inline-six mill rated at 168 PS (166 hp / 124 kW). You may remember that the E30 3-Series had the same powertrain.
