When it became clear that BMW won’t be releasing a Z4 M, many fans of the Bavarian brand felt betrayed. Luckily, aftermarket company Dähler quickly came up with a solution for this problem.
The range-topping BMW Z4 M40i rolls off the assembly line packing a powerful inline-six engine producing at least 382 hp (285 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb×ft) of torque. The Stage 2 power kit available from Dähler can be used to raise these numbers to 435 hp (324 kW) and 640 Nm (472 lb×ft). Budget-conscious owners can opt for the cheaper Stage 1 kit, which still unlocks 402 hp (300 kW) alongside 620 Nm (457 lb×ft) of torque. Both upgrades remove the 250 km/h (155 mph) speed cap.
To provoke analogies with the M Series, the tuner gives the roadster a front spoiler lip, a set of in-house designed 21-inch wheels wrapped in Michelin performance rubber, and round quad exhaust pipes. As for the suspension, you may opt to lower it using normal springs or coilovers.
Dähler’s future plans include fitting the BMW Z4 M40i with window air deflectors, another set of coilovers, and an ECU tune squeezing the engine for another bit of agility.
