Reports: BMW to get rid of the Z4

According to motor.es citing unofficial sources, the Bavarian carmaker will be removing the Z4 from production for good, without a successor model to replace it. Low demand is given as the main reason.

It seems plausible that BMW failed to meet target sales figures because of sharing the Z4 platform with the new Toyota A90 Supra. The latter may be a coupe with its own, distinct design, but differences mostly end there.

Motor.es believes that the roadster may yet enjoy its last mid-life refresh before permanent retirement. It could take place in 2023 and is expected to be very mild and purely aesthetic. In fact, we are told that even the new infotainment system that comes standard with all modern BMWs may not make it into the Z4 facelift next year.

The end of production is set for mid-2025, according to the source. Allegedly, BMW considered producing an all-electric successor to the Z4, but decided to prioritize mass-market, high-profit EVs instead, like the iX SUV or the i4 liftback.

It remains to be seen what future lies in store for the Toyota A90 Supra.
